Welcome to KD Photography!

Hey! I'm KD aka Katie Derus. Yup, my initials, when spoken out loud, sound like my name. I am a recent college grad with a degree in photojournalism, and I currently live in the beautiful city Denver, CO! I am a recent transplant to Colorado from Milwaukee, WI (my hometown and favorite place on earth!) and I am loving that change in my life! Though I miss Wisconsin, and everything about it, like the Packers, the north woods, the lakefront, and my friends and family dearly!

Even though I'm "trained" in photojournalism, and it is my first photography love, I am discovering the incredibly exciting world of lifestyle photography (babies, kids, weddings, people!) I am excited to be starting my adventures in the photography business of capturing people's lives the way they want to remember them!

My goal is to make every session a blast for each person in front of my camera. I remember my own family photos from when I was younger, when my mother would force us all into khakis and navy blue polo shirts so we were already all annoyed with the process, and then we would head to a studio for a over-posed family photo that, to this day, I cringe when I see hanging in our house. I never want a family to have that feeling before or during their shoot with me or when looking at their photos after!

The best compliment I ever received was an email from a mother of 4 a few hours after their shoot. She had told me before-hand that she was nervous about the whole thing since 4 small kids, and a family or 6, is no easy task to photograph, and she had had bad experiences in the past. Before she even saw her photos, she emailed me to say that her two oldest children (8 and 6 year olds) got in the car to go home from our shoot and THANKED HER for letting them have a photo shoot and asking when they could do it again! It was truly the best thing for me to hear that those two kids loved their experience with me and in turn made their mom so so happy! For me, it is all about the experience I can provide for you during your shoot!

Denver Family Photographer :: The Stevens Family!

Yesterday I showed you two little girls who were sugar and spice and everything nice (and everything pink!)… and today I have a family with two little boys who are wild and crazy and exactly as two little boys should be!! Not to mention they are the CUTEST set of brothers I may have ever had in front of my camera. Sure boys tend to be like tornados, but I don’t think these parents would trade it for the world when those little tornados come running up to them for a big bear hug. This family was so unique and fun and a pleasure to photograph! Meet the Stevens:
